Nancy E. Foltz was born on February 2, 1954 in Des Moines County, Iowa. She was raised on a working farm and graduated from a small rural high school in Danville, Iowa in 1972. In 1976, she graduated, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Iowa with a degree in General Science, With Distinction.

Nancy moved to Gaston County, North Carolina in 1979, and received her Juris Doctor degree (cum laude) (with high honors) from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1980. She passed the North Carolina Bar Examination that same year and has been working continuously since that time as an attorney in private practice until May of 2014 when she became “Of Counsel” with the firm Arthurs & Foltz.

Nancy was elected to the presidency of the Gaston County Bar Association in 1995. She continues to be a member of the North Carolina State Bar and Gaston County Bar Association. She is a member of the Gaston County Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyer’s Committee. She has received numerous awards for her volunteer legal work, including the Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney Service Award presented by the North Carolina Bar Association in 2001, an award presented to only one attorney in the State each year. Nancy received this award for her work in family law cases, primarily custody cases. Nancy has written articles and spoken at seminars about legal professionalism and ethics.

Nancy received an “AV” rating in the prestigious Martindale-Hubble law directory. An “AV” rating represents the highest level of professional excellence, as rated by other attorneys who know and practice with Nancy.

After 34 years of experience in the local courts, primarily practicing in Gaston County since 1985, Nancy is now retired.
